Power Supply Transformer for PDLC Smart Film & Glass
AC 110V/220V input to safe 60V output, 50W-100W, sized to your smart film area. Silent, protected, with plugs for every region. The part most DIY projects get wrong - we size it for you.
The honest numbers
| Smart film transformer | Typical local option | Direct from Smart Glass VIP |
|---|---|---|
| Sizing help | You guess the wattage | We calculate it at quotation |
| Safety | Unbranded no-name units | Over-load & short-circuit protection |
| Input | One voltage only | AC 110V / 220V, 50/60Hz |
| Noise | Audible hum | Silent operation |
| Plugs | Adapter needed | EU / US / UK / AU options |

The part most projects get wrong
- Correct pairing - size at 8 W/m² of film area (see the sizing table below)
- Worldwide input - AC 110V / 220V, 50/60Hz
- Safe output - AC 60V / 48V low voltage (PNLC: 25-80V compatible)
- Silent operation - no audible hum in offices and bedrooms
- Protection - over-load and short-circuit protection built in
- Plug options - EU / US / UK / AU plugs
One transformer per film zone
Each independently switched film area needs one transformer sized to its area. Wire in parallel from the transformer output to the film busbar. We help you calculate the right wattage at quotation time - undersized transformers are the most common DIY mistake, and we make sure you avoid it.

Powered by our transformers
This glass switches thanks to a transformer sized like the ones below.
- Under 0.1 s switching - clear to frosted the instant power changes
- ~5 W per m² - less power than a light bulb, only while clear
- Factory-cut to size - busbar finished and tested, ready to wire

Not just on and off - dim the glass continuously
Pair your film with our dimmable (gradient) power supply and the glass no longer jumps between two states. Turn the knob or slide the app control and the film fades smoothly through every level in between - from fully clear to fully frosted and anywhere in between.
- Scene setting - restaurants, hotels and showrooms dial in exactly how much privacy or view they want
- Glare control - soften sunlight partway instead of blocking the window completely
- Retail displays - fade exhibits in and out gradually for window displays that draw attention
Ask for the dimmable model with your quote - it wires in exactly like the standard transformer below.
Pick the wattage by film area
Rule of thumb from our factory: calculate at 8 W per m² of film, then take the next size up. Example: two glass doors of 1 × 2 m = 2 pcs × 2 m² × 8 W = 32 W → choose 50W or larger. Six doors of 2 × 2 m = 6 × 4 m² × 8 W = 192 W → choose 200W or larger.
| Transformer | Film area (max) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 30W | ≤ 4 m² | Single window or small partition |
| 50W | ≤ 7 m² | One or two glass doors |
| 100W | ≤ 14 m² | Meeting room partition |
| 200W | ≤ 28 m² | Large office zone |
| 300W | ≤ 46 m² | Whole floor or facade section |
| 500W / 1000W | project-sized | Multiple zones, building projects |

Transformer to film wiring diagram

- Parallel, not serial - all panels in one switching zone share the same 60V output lines
- Line control on the input side - switch or remote module cuts the 220V input, never the low-voltage side
- Match the busbar type - this diagram is for single-width side busbar panels; we confirm the wiring for your layout at quotation
Questions about this product
Can one transformer run several pieces of film?
Yes - pieces within the same switching zone wire in parallel to one correctly sized transformer. Different zones that switch independently need their own transformer or control module.
Where should the transformer be mounted?
In an accessible dry location near the glass - behind a partition, above a ceiling panel or in a socket box. Every order includes positioning advice for your layout.
How do I calculate the right wattage?
Size at 8 W per m² of film and take the next size up. Example: 8 m² of film = 8 × 8 = 64 W → choose a 100 W unit. We confirm the exact size for your layout with the quote - see the sizing table on this page.
110V or 220V input - which do I need?
Both are stocked; the input side matches your mains, the output is always AC 60V. Tell us your country and we ship the right plug and input.
Can the transformer be hidden inside a wall or ceiling?
Yes, inside an accessible maintenance box - never sealed without ventilation. Undersized or overheated transformers are the most common cause of film not switching.
What is the service life of the transformer?
Designed for continuous duty with overload and short-circuit protection; typical service life matches the film's 15+ years. 2-year warranty included.
