Installing Self-Adhesive PDLC Film: Tools, Method and Wiring Checklist
The practical walkthrough - what to prepare, the dry-mount method and the electrical checklist.
Tools and materials
Squeegee, lint-free cloths, alcohol, masking tape, tape measure, utility knife (for minor trims only), and the transformer sized to your film area. Order factory-cut film - cutting on site requires re-finishing the busbar, as the full guide shows.
Surface preparation
Clean the glass thoroughly - remove silicone residue and paint spots with alcohol. Any particle trapped under the film shows as a permanent dot. Work in a dust-free room, windows closed.
Dry-mount method
- Position the film with small pieces of masking tape at the top edge - hinge technique
- Peel the backing (two people for large pieces - handle gently, never bend)
- Peel the backing downward and let the adhesive meet the dry glass
- Squeegee firmly from center outward, pushing air out to the edges
- Re-squeegee any trapped bubbles; the adhesive bonds fully within hours
Wiring checklist
- Busbar wire to transformer AC 60V output - polarity-free
- One transformer per independently switched zone (~50W per 10 m²)
- Pieces within a zone wire in parallel
- Transformer mounted in an accessible, dry location
- Final connection by a certified electrician
First switch
Power on: clear in under 10 ms. Power off: frosted. Check for uniform opacity - any white spots or delamination is a warranty case; contact us with your order number.

An SGV install switching between transparent and frosted - the film this article talks about.
- Under 0.1 s switching - clear to frosted the instant power changes
- ~5 W per m² - less power than a light bulb, only while clear
- Factory-cut to size - busbar finished and tested, ready to wire
