Product overview

A switchable layer for the glass you already have

DLC (dye-doped liquid crystal) film is a self-adhesive film for compatible existing glazing. It is specified by application: glass type, size, wiring route and controller choice all affect the final build.

  • Switchable privacy - choose a clear view or a more private, light-diffusing glass appearance
  • Retrofit existing glazing - brings switchable privacy to selected windows and partitions without replacing the glass
  • Vehicle and building glass - selected automotive windows, office partitions, meeting rooms and residential glazing; vehicle use depends on local vehicle-glazing requirements
  • A visible product connection - two separated contact points on the same edge, one lead from each contact

Controller, leads and power supply shown in the image are for illustration only. The supplied configuration is confirmed with your quotation.

Product detail

Two contacts, one edge, one lead each

The product illustration shows two separated electrical contact points on the same edge, with a lead from each contact. When you send your drawing or measurements, mark the contact positions and the wiring route so the busbar and controller layout can be matched to your glazing.

  • Contact layout - two separated points on the same edge, kept accurate in drawings and product images
  • Wiring - one lead from each contact, routed to the controller position
  • Installation - depends on glass geometry, wiring route, controller selection and local requirements

Naming

Names used in international markets

Buyers and suppliers use several names for related dye-liquid-crystal film products. Terminology and optical behaviour are not fully standardised, so we match the final product name to your application and to the product datasheet.

  • DLC Film / DLC Smart Film
  • Dye Liquid Crystal Film / Dye-Doped Liquid Crystal Film
  • Blackout Smart Film / Blackout Window Film - market-facing names used for dark-state DLC products
Control

Control options

Remote and controller operation can be discussed for your project. The available controller options, operating voltage, switching behaviour and installation requirements are confirmed from the current product datasheet before we specify them.

  • Controller choice - matched to the number of film zones and the way the space is used
  • Wiring plan - agreed against your glass geometry and the contact positions
  • Documentation - voltage, switching behaviour and installation requirements supplied with the datasheet, not assumed from other film types
Before you order

What we confirm on the datasheet

We publish numerical performance data only once product-specific test results are available. Ask our team for the current datasheet covering:

  • Visible light transmission in each state
  • UV and IR rejection
  • Power consumption and operating voltage
  • Switching speed, operating temperature range
  • Adhesive life and service life
  • Certification and vehicle-glazing applicability

These values vary between DLC formulations and suppliers. This page intentionally carries no unverified performance figures.

Product FAQ

Questions about this product

Is DLC film the same as PDLC film?

No. DLC refers to dye-doped (dye liquid crystal) film, a different product family from standard PDLC. Market terminology is not fully standardised, so we confirm the exact optical and electrical behaviour for your configuration from the product datasheet before specifying it.

Can it be applied to glass I already have?

The self-adhesive format is designed for compatible existing glass. Suitability depends on the glass geometry, surface condition, wiring route and controller selection. Send us your sizes and a photo or drawing and we will confirm it for your project.

Can I use it on car windows?

DLC film is discussed for selected automotive glazing as well as building glass. Vehicle use is subject to local vehicle-glazing regulations, which differ by market - please check the rules that apply to your country and vehicle before ordering. We can supply the product datasheet to support that check.

Where can I get the technical numbers and pricing?

Request the current datasheet and a quotation through our quote form. Tell us the application, glass sizes, quantity and destination, and our team will confirm the configuration, sample options and project pricing.
